Star Trek: 10 Dumbest Decisions By Starfleet Officers

6. Ignoring The Krowtonan Gaurd's Warning - Captain Rudy Ransom

The USS Equinox has a similar origin story to the USS Voyager. While she was in service for slightly longer, she was also pulled into the Delta Quadrant by the Caretaker. Stranded in a Nova-class starship on the other side of the galaxy, Captain Rudy Ransom found himself in a dire situation. The ship itself was not designed for long-range exploration at all, so discovering a way to get home was paramount.

They charted a course home, though they quickly ran into the Krowtonan Guard. This was a highly aggressive race that was fiercely territorial. They warned the Equinox that the ship had violated their territory, ordering the strangers to turn around.

While anyone could be forgiven for being a little shellshocked at finding themselves 70,000 light-years away from home, Ransom believed that getting his crew home quickly negated any risk that the Guard may pose to the vessel, and so gives the order to press on through their space. Over the course of the next week, repeated attacks by these aliens result in the starship being battered, with 39 crew members losing their lives. The Equinox never truly recovers from this, leading to their eventual actions and destruction.
