Star Trek: 10 Moments That Confirm J/C (Janeway & Chakotay)
4. The Temporal Mechanics Of Combadges… 101
If the dates 2329 to 2394 mean anything to you, then well done Doctor Kovich (if that is your real name…) for remembering and thank you for reading this list. That particular year of death for Chakotay (we assume, anyway), along with an entire timeline, was erased from existence faster than you could say "Computer, activate the chrono-deflector". Such was the love of alternate-future-Admiral-Janeway for her former first officer and crew.
Were it not for the Admiral in Endgame, Voyager would still be traipsing its way through the Delta Quadrant (until 2394, in fact), not sat as a museum with another letter added to the lineage. None of the events of Star Trek: Prodigy (or most of Star Trek: Picard for that matter) would have happened, and, moreover, Chakotay would be married to, then mourning, Seven of Nine, and then, of course, dead. That's rather the ultimate damper on all things J/C!
As it was, future Janeway did the galaxy, and the fans, quite a few favours, allowing her younger self a chance with Chakotay, and, let's face it, allowing Seven of Nine some far less random options (including life) elsewhere. On her trip back in time, the Admiral also brought those All Good Things… uniforms and combadges, providing for the most temporal, but not mechanical J/C moment in Prodigy's Ascension, Part I.
In that episode, the extant Admiral Janeway gives Chakotay his new (designs from her alternate) combadge, and the pair reminisce about the "old Voyager". Looking out, and ahead, with Chakotay back by her side, Janeway notes, "Nothing stays the same forever. I'm looking forward to what comes next". So are we, Admiral, so are we!
