Star Trek: 10 Reasons Prodigy Is The Best Series Of The Kurtzman Era

Star Trek Prodigy
CBS

Discovery, Picard and Lower Decks have stayed close to home for the duration of their runs. Even with Burnham and co jumping into the distant future they are still in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants seeking out already sought out lifeforms. This is all to do with the rebuilding of the Federation and it's now left to Prodigy to offer up new ways of seeing the galaxy.

Taking the story out to the Delta Quadrant, viewers might have been expecting multiple baddies and recurring appearances from aliens already seen in Voyager but that hasn't been the case. Bizarrely viewers have been reacquainted with the Ferengi and the curves of their Marauder more than the Kazon and his craft in the first episode.

Even just a few episodes in, the series has already migrated to the Gamma Quadrant, leaving the potential overfamiliarity of the Delta Quadrant behind. While that takes one series out of the equation, it does offer up more chances to see the barely explored Gamma Quadrant.

All fans got to see during Deep Space Nine was a limited portion of what lay beyond the Bajoran wormhole. With the protowarp jump, there's more to see and maybe more Dominion too.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
