Star Trek: 10 Reasons Wesley Crusher Needs His Own Spin-Off Series
1. Never Get A Better Sweater
Much like travellers of space and time, fashions go round in cycles. Anything or anyone can have their day again or have their day at all. In this case, the orange jumper was the same, but it was a very different Wesley that came bursting brightly onto screens in Star Trek: Prodigy. The sweater was always ugly, only now he wore it well.
"I've never been able to watch Wesley Crusher the way the audience has until now. […] It's joy!" Wil Wheaton told Seán during his TrekCulture interview. That joy emanated from every syllable of Wheaton's animated performance. Wheaton and Wesley had newfound momentum, gained as an integral part of a gripping storyline, and fan reaction to his turn in Prodigy, like rarely before, was overwhelmingly positive, leaving us all crying out for more.
If we may, therefore, we'd like to have our sweater and wear it too (plus some cake, Earth grapes, and mango juice!). This entire piece has been about a spin-off, but Prodigy's simply extraordinary second season must beget another, and Wesley deserves to be back in it as well. After all, it was he who set the seven — now field-commissioned ensigns in his stead — on their crucial path towards the USS Prodigy. Safe travels, #SetACourseForSeasonThree, and get knitting!
