Star Trek: 10 Reasons Wesley Crusher Needs His Own Spin-Off Series
8. I AS RTD
If you've not looked in the mirror and asked, "What would David Tennant do?" you should probably stop reading and go sort yourself out! Joking aside (though you should anyway), that's the question Wil Wheaton asked himself when trying to find the "right energy" for Wesley in Star Trek: Prodigy's second season. Beyond the question, Wheaton is a huge Doctor Who fan.
If it's bigger on the inside like a TARDIS, has countless passageways, hidden safe-rooms, and cubbyholes for those items of sentimental value like a TARDIS, not to forget a central hub and time vortex for its time-and-space being(s)… like a TARDIS, then the Travellers' ziggurat was a TARDIS. Deliberately so, Wheaton told Seán, as the creators of Prodigy wanted "to pay homage to Doctor Who".
The nods also travelled in the other direction this year with Russell T. Davies — fan of Star Trek — back at the Who helm. With a dash of seasoning (and some snot), it was more than just hinted (again) that Star Trek has some kind of material existence in the Whoniverse. Who better than Wesley, then, in his already-TARDIS to meet up with the Doctor? Spin-off and crossover are two types of Time Lord!
