Star Trek: 10 Secrets Of Deep Space 9 You Need To Know

7. Unseen Promenade

Deep Space 9's Promenade is the most recognizable location on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and the setting of most of the series' on-station action and activity.

While impressive, the standing Promenade set only represented a third of the in-universe facility due to the limitations and practicalities of television production. For a handful of episodes, the standing Promenade set was redressed to represent another third of the circular area, depicting the Klingon Restaurant (seen in "Melora" and "Playing God") and Garak's Clothier – though sometimes that shop seemed to be located just across the walkway from Quark's Bar.

However, the mysterious remaining two thirds of the Promenade and majority of the station's shops and restaurants (that weren't Quark's Bar, Grill, Gaming House and Holosuite Arcade) went unseen.

According to the Promenade directory and the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Technical Manual, off-screen Promenade establishments included a Bajoran greengrocer, a barbershop, an EVA suit retailer called Del Floria's, and something known only as Yoyodyne Propulsion, one of the many behind-the-scenes references to The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension!
