Star Trek: 10 Species That Can Survive The Vacuum Of Space
8. Ian Troi
Although it's never established if the Human/Betazoid 'Ian Troi' himself can survive the vacuum of space, as is so often with Star Trek, things aren't quite that straightforward.
Appearing in the TNG episode The Child, Troi is the infant son of ship's counsellor Deanna Troi, who discovers not only that she is pregnant, but that the baby's gestation period will be finished in only 36 hours. Sure enough, the baby is born and, merely hours later, appears as if he is four years old.
As Ian grows, tactile and seemingly confused about his physical surroundings, a deadly plasma plague in storage grows in turn, with its containment rapidly failing. Surmising that he is the cause of the danger due to a unique radiation he emits, Ian 'dies' and reverts to his true state, a shining white light wishing to experience humanoid existence. Thanking Troi, the life form returns to space, travelling through the void and preventing the containment breach which could have spelled certain death for the crew.
