9. The Prophets

When Benjamin Sisko was assigned to Deep Space Nine to assist Bajor after the end of the Cardassian occupation, little did he know what he was in for. Sisko discovered the first stable wormhole which led from the Alpha Quadrant to the Gamma Quadrant. But what he and his team realized was that this wormhole had been artificially constructed.

That's when he met the Prophets.

The Bajoran religious system was entirely based around the Prophets, powerful beings that watched over and guided them. Kai Opaka declared Sisko to be the Emissary of the Prophets, an important religious figure to the Bajorans. Inside the wormhole, Sisko met a powerful group of immortal aliens who existed outside of space and time. They were the Prophets, the wormhole their fabled Celestial Temple.

For unknown reasons, the Prophets had taken an interest in the Bajorans centuries earlier, adopting an almost parent like mentality towards them. Through Sisko, the Prophets protected the Bajorans from many threats through the time of the Dominion War.

The problem with the Prophets was that they had no concept of linear time until Sisko arrived. They experienced every moment of the past, present and future at once, meaning past, present and future meant nothing to them. Conversations with them were awkward to say the least, but their power was undeniable.
