Star Trek: 10 Things Picard Has Wisely Avoided (Or Forgotten)

5. Enterprise-E

One of the rules Patrick Stewart had for Picard (at least season one) was that there would be no USS Enterprise. Throughout the show we have glimpsed models and pictures of both the D and the E but the fate of the Sovereign Class starship last seen in Nemesis remains unknown.

Season three hints indicate there will be a new Federation starship on-screen leading fans to ponder if they will finally get to know what happened to the flagship. The timeline would suggest that the E is still in service as the Galaxy Class spaceframe was designed to last for a century (TNG Technical Manual). That said, starships called Enterprise tend to have a rather explosive end.

That in turn would lead way for further use of Star Trek Online upgraded ships most notably the Odyssey Class and the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-F. The choice to avoid even mentioning the current status of the iconic starship has meant that the show can focus on the assemblage of new characters in Picard rather than being drawn into a direct TNG comparison - at least for now.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
