Star Trek: 10 Things Picard Has Wisely Avoided (Or Forgotten)

2. All Good Things Timeline

Picard Sisko
CBS

Twenty-five years have passed since the end of TNG on TV and 25 passed within the Star Trek universe itself.

The timeline explored in the TNG finale All Good Things... is revisited only by Q's reappearance to continue the trial in season two but what about the rest of the episode?

Reuniting Ambassador Picard, Geordi, Professor Data, Worf and Admiral Riker, season two sidestepped the whole reason for Q challenging Picard at that time. Then it was for Picard to expand the human potential and realise the paradox of the temporal distortion but here Q's motivations are muddled to say the least.

Ok, he is experiencing some challenges as he reaches the end of his existence in this reality. At the least as a lead in to the return of the TNG cast and as an even more satisfying tie-up the writers could have linked the season's time travelling needs to the events of All Good Things. Bizarrely of all the alternative future options, Picard has experienced Irumodic Syndrome and also ended up on the vineyard at the family estate.

Maybe the former Enterprise captain is pretty mundane and predictable being the only one whose future appears to have gone in a very singular direction.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
