1. Louise Fletcher Had A Wonderful Time Playing Her

After the show had complete its run, Fletcher recounted in interviews how much she had enjoyed playing Winn. She described the character as one having 'permissible passion', thus explaining some of her actions toward others. Getting to play that, she said, was a great time.

In Winn's sporadic appearances - only fourteen episodes overall - Fletcher said that while she enjoyed every moment, it was exhausting work. The schedules usually matched up, so she was glad to say that she was often free at the producers' requests.

Fletcher personally found Winn's envy of Sisko's position as deeply funny, with the silliness of a person vying to be chosen for vision playing a part in this. However, it was her relationship that Nana Visitor that was one of her fondest memories. She believed that Winn had no real animosity toward Kira, other than to consider her a troublesome fly in the ointment.

She loved playing scenes alongside Visitor, often citing the casual dismissal that Winn showed Kira as a hoot to film.

Fletcher left a permanent mark on Star Trek with her performance, and Winn may forever be remembered as one of the most frustrating characters that we've ever loved to hate.
