Star Trek: 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Quark
2. He was supposed to be in Star Trek: Insurrection
Surely one of the biggest missed opportunities of the 90s era Star Trek is that they never produced a movie with the Deep Space Nine cast, especially since there were so many possibilities they could explore in the universe it shared with The Next Generation and Voyager.
While any hopes of such a movie were probably put to bed by the terrible reception that Star Trek: Nemesis got at the box office, we nearly got the chance to see one of DS9 characters on the big screen in the previous film.
The initial script for 1998's Star Trek: Insurrection featured a scene in which Picard discovers Quark stowing away on a Starfleet vessel, trying to get to the Ba'ku planet. Always the businessman, Quark was apparently intending to open up a spa on the planet.
This was thought up by Michael Piller and Rick Berman, thinking that a fountain of youth-type of discovery would make the Ferengi's nose for profit perk up. Armin Shimerman even did some filming, but sadly his scenes were scrapped and deleted before the film's release. Ah, what could have been!
