Star Trek: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Benjamin Sisko

5. Sisko Lives?

Star Trek Deep Space Nine The Sisko

Appearing in all 176 episodes of Deep Space Nine puts Avery Brooks and Ben Sisko among the ten characters with the most appearances in Star Trek history (just). He is also the Star Trek lead with the most in series directing credits at nine including the seminal Far Beyond the Stars.

Brooks voiced Sisko twice outside of the series in the PC games Harbinger and Legacy with the latter as his most recent link to the franchise in role.

2011's The Captains project presented by William Shatner saw Brooks exploring the background of his Star Trek character as well as lending his skills as musical supervisor. He declined to be involved with any new material for the DS9 documentary What We Left Behind in 2018 with archive footage used to ensure Brooks was part of the film.

While Sisko has been reborn in the Trek literary universe and graphic novels, his status in official canon remains undetermined following the DS9 finale. Notably in that episode, Avery Brooks asked for the script to be changed so that Sisko would indicate he would return rather than leaving his expectant wife and son alone. It does leave the window open and rumours circulate as to whether or not Brooks would want to or even entertain a role in the future of the Star Trek franchise.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
