Star Trek: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Jake Sisko
7. Early Signs Of Heroism
While ...Nor The Battle To The Strong would explore Jake's sense of heroism, and cowardice, an earlier episode Civil Defence offered an example of his bravery. While stuck in the Ore Processing centre aboard the station, Jake, Ben, and O'Brien accidentally trigger an old Cardassian security program, designed to quell Bajoran resistance during the Occupation.
While this leads to all sorts of disasters across the station, in the small confined space, Jake shows that he is able to conquer his fears when he disobeys his father's instructions to abandon them, then drags O'Brien to safety from a fire.
For Jake, this was a crucial character moment. We had always suspected, this being Star Trek, that there was a backbone in there, though the scripts had rarely called for Jake to take part in any sort of action scenes. Here, small as it was, we were able to see Jake save a life, earning both our respect, and an enormous sense of pride from his father.
