1. Riker
William T. Riker. No, you don't need him. You need to be like him. Read through this list again and tell me where he didn't excel. The Enterprise was his flagship during his time as Admiral. He excelled in Anbo-Jyutsu. He was a brilliant tactician. He out-Kirked Captain Kirk with regard to cross species, inter-gender relations. The list goes on and on. How often was Picard's Number One elevated to Acting Captain when Jean-Luc was away? He was constantly fighting battles while Picard stuck to his strong suit: diplomatic relations. Riker bade his time as second in command of the biggest, baddest starship in the Federation. After serving the Enterprise faithfully, he finally took command of his own ship and eventually worked his way up to the rank of Admiral. There is no question he is deserving of his place on any list of the greatest Starfleet captains. Yet I highly encourage you to look his way first in your quest to be the Ultimate Starfleet Captain. William Riker has laid the groundwork for anyone desiring a place in history. Plus, you'll never have to sit down like a "Normal" person ever again. Make it so.
