Star Trek: 10 Things You Need To Be The Ultimate Starfleet Captain

2. A Worthy Adversary

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan Ricardo Montalban Picard had Q and the Borg. Sisko had the Dominion and the Cardassians. Kirk had Khan. Kirk had Khan. Yes Khan gets billed twice. This section is about worthy adversaries and he was the worthiest of all adversarial adversaries. The bottom line though is, regardless of how amazing your are, it really doesn't matter if you don't have a foil to play off . You may get a textbook entry or two for being a great explorer or diplomat but legends are written with blood shed in battle. Tales are told of epic fights. You don't get those pitted against patsies. Some day you are going to cross paths with some really, really bad guys. You're not going to know how to beat them. You're going to lay awake at night, afraid of the nightmares they have inspired. Relish those encounters. Pray for some truly epic meetings. If you happen to capture them, be sure to maroon them on a far off planet so they have a chance to come back years later after developing a psychotic hatred for you. If you survive these truly horrible beings, your name will be sung during the celebrations of a thousand planets.
