Star Trek: 10 Times Spock Abandoned Logic

6. Both Student And Commander Spock Gave Into Anger When Taunted

In the 2009 reboot Star Trek film, young Spock was tormented by three Vulcan boys. They berate him about his mixed Vulcan and human heritage as Spock noted that this was the 34th time that they tried to get an emotional response out of him. One of the boys called Spock’s father Sarek a traitor and his mother Amanda Grayson a “human whore.” The young Vulcan became enraged, abandoning his logic, knocked the boy into a skill dome, and beat him severely.

Later, the Romulan Nero from the Prime Universe destroyed Vulcan, killing most of its population, including Spock’s mother. Spock and James T. Kirk argued about how to deal with Nero. Spock ordered Kirk removed from the ship but he returned due to the aid of Prime Universe Spock and Montgomery Scott.

At Elder Spock's suggestion, Jim insulted the younger Vulcan, claiming that the death of his mother and his world meant nothing to him until he cracked, beating Kirk savagely until Sarek stopped him. Spock instructed McCoy to judge him as unfit and Jim took over. It was the younger Spock’s mistake to remain in command when the death of his mother had affected him and trying to compartmentalize it when that emotion was so quickly triggered by Kirk. If the emotional break had happened during a command decision, it could have had devastating consequences.
