Star Trek: 12 Biggest Losses Starfleet Ever Faced

7. The Seventh Fleet

Star Trek A Time To Stand
CBS

Ira Steven Behr had been disappointed by the final shot of the fifth season of Star Trek Deep Space Nine, which depicted an incredible alliance of Starfleet and Klingon vessels, turning around and ready to face the Dominion, so he made two quick decisions for the opening of the sixth season.

The first image from A Time To Stand shows a battered, battle damaged fleet limping through space, finally free of a pursuing Dominion force. The crew is beaten down, with O'Brien saying he is getting very tired of having to be the ones doing the running.

As Martok and Sisko gather in the mess hall, a very somber Dr. Bashir enters the room, with news of the Seventh Fleet - an invasion force that was sent into Cardassian space comprising of 112 alliance vessels.

Only fourteen ships made it back to Federation territory.

The men understand the dire nature of the news, with Sisko's anger boiling over before the end of the scene.
