Star Trek: 12 Characters That Deserve Their Own Series

Star-Treks-Benedict-Cumberbatch-says-hes-not-playing-Khan Star Trek has lately gained a lot of attention from the re-imagined J.J. Abrams' films. Both did exceptionally well in the box office, shattering all expectations that a Trek film couldn't crossover (so powerfully) into the mainstream. Literally shooting lightning into the heart of the Trek franchise and returning it to life, not necessarily for the hardcore fandom, but bridging the gap between mainstream film viewers and science fiction blockbuster film making. Breaking all the rules of a film franchise with a name and reputation that precedes it. With all of the attention the renewed franchise has gained, it's likely, that a new series will eventually be gracing the small screen sometime soon. While the logical course of action for those in control of Roddenberry's universe is to have continuity and connection to the current films, we can still speculate for other central characters, ships, and locations to be the focus of a new series. With a lot of the rules broken by Abrams in terms of what should work for a Trek film, this is especially true. It's quite possible to see some of the same rules broken in terms of bringing a new series to the small screen, so here is a list comprised of some great characters throughout Star Trek's history that would make for interesting spin-offs to a new and revived Trek franchise. Click the Jump to read this list of great characters that deserve their own series in the Trek universe.

I'm a writer, a published author, and editor for a small independent publishing house. I'm an award winning producer of independent media, and I get to edit books, screenplays, and comics in my day to day. I love working on independent film & games, during my down time, as well as reviewing films while gobbling down milk duds (it's an addiction, I know). I've been called "Geek-Prime" among my peers for all the fandoms I work in, and I wear that title proudly. It's a passion, and an exercise in my growing profession, to get to write about what I love. Which happens to be a little of everything. But mostly film, comics, horror, games, anime, literature, and life. I do write about academic material, like politics, medicine, physics, and mathematics too. But for the most part, I like to keep things down to earth and simple. Follow me on Twitter & Facebook
