Star Trek: 12 Characters That Deserve Their Own Series

12. Commander Shran

Star Trek Commander Shran

Shran, of the Andorian Warship Kumari and a member of the Andorian Imperial Guard was one of the best recurring characters during Star Trek Enterprise (ENT). He was played by science fiction and horror veteran Jeffrey Combs, who also played the enigmatic Weyoun in Star Trek: Deep Space 9 (DS9). Not only was his character awesome, emotional, temperamental, powerful, and stoic, he was hilariously irreverent, (confusingly) loyal to Archer, as well to his own people. Shran was a complete wildcard element in the series, and was instrumental for the future of Starfleet and the birth of the Federation. A rogue that somehow operated for the greater good, for himself, and for his friends.

Shran is #12 on this list for being a great character and an amazing addition to the ENT series. However, getting a series on the exploits of Shran, his crew, and his ship €“ the Kumari €“ is more of a personal choice, so it's not necessarily an objective addition to this list. Most of what makes him great is his interaction with the "pinkskin" Archer; as he likes to call him. There's a lot of material available on Shran's back story that would make for excellent Trek stories. From his elder brother joining the Imperial guard while Shran was in school to various conflicts with the Vulcans, Orions, and Nausicaans. While we saw an (incomplete) set of conflicts during the mid-22nd century in ENT, we missed out on a lot of material with an Andorian presence. We'd certainly never run out of Andorian Ale with a series focused on Shran, that's for sure!
