Star Trek: 15 Best Holodeck Moments

7. The Killing Game - Charlie's Not Known For His Accuracy

This two parter from Voyager's fourth season was a big and ambitious project, with varying results. While the design and effects were top notch, there was a bit of push back from the representation of some of the characters. Robert Beltran for one hated the show, claiming it was highly disrespectful to German audiences.

That being said, the episodes are a success in many ways and, most surprisingly, Harry Kim gets his chance to shine. This is surprising because at the time of writing, Rick Berman and Jo Menosky simply didn't care about the character. He was left out of the simulation altogether, something Garrett Wang was less than thrilled about.

However, they felt that this actually gave Kim more to do, allowing him to be roughed up by the Hirogen crew while still getting the job done. The episode also contains a personal favourite of Brannon Braga, in that he finally got to blow up a building on Star Trek. The explosion of the Nazi headquarters was one of the biggest effects that they had pulled off, on a year that was already full of big action set pieces. The crew were already exhausted by the time production began on this entry, though it was still handled with extreme grace.

It is also the first appearance of guest actor J. Paul Boehmer in the role of the Nazi Commander, later returning as Seven's adopted child, One. With reactions mixed, this is still one of the stand out holodeck episodes on offer in the franchise.
