Star Trek: 20 Characters Who Bored Us Senseless

5. Kes

Star_Trek_Voyager_Kes_freecomputerdesktopwallpaper_1600 Kes (Jennifer Lien) had an interesting note to her character. Being an Ocampan, she only had a nine year life span. With Kes being so young, Lien played her with a child like quality. Not running around and acting like a brat but being innocent and gentle. As it is with every Star Trek series, along with the Doctor, she was the member of the crew that was going to grow as the series went on. She also had telepathic powers which she had to learn to control with the help of Tuvok and we saw her enter her own version of Pon Farr where she got ultra horny when her mating cycle started. Kes then became the Doctor€™s assistant and even though she was linked with Neelix, everything was there for her to be one of Star Trek€™s most interesting characters. However, Lien€™s sleep inducing delivery of her lines and the writers not giving Kes many interesting things to occupy her time on screen, she was not very captivating. To rub it in, she was even given the €˜€™honour€™€™ of converting one of the cargo bays into a botanical bay, so we could watch her water her plants. She did have a couple of standout episodes with €˜€™Warlord€™€™ being her best where she accidentally takes the consciousness of a violent alien tyrant, but most of the time she would hand the Doctor his medical Tricorder. In 1997 during the cross over of Season 3 and 4, Kes was replaced with the sexy Borg bombshell that was Seven Of Nine (Jeri Ryan). The producers of Voyager felt the series needed an injection of sex to increase ratings and Seven€™s boobs were just the thing. To make way for Seven Of Nine, a character had to be axed and the original plan was for Harry Kim (Garrett Wang) to take one for the team. Wang had a bad reputation with the shows producers and the plan was that he would be cut, and Seven would take his place. However, People Magazine voted Wang as one of the "50 Most Beautiful People in the World" in 1997 and all of a sudden the plan changed. Wang was saved from the chop and Lien took his place. The introduction of Seven€™s boobs is a controversial one within the world of Star Trek, but it worked as they convinced many horny sci-fi fans to watch the series, and they had much more screen presence than Kes ever did. Most entertaining moment: Loading a Hypospray in Sickbay.

4. The Traveller

Traveler_in_Main_Engineering,_remastered The mysterious Traveler was one of those characters that might have sounded great as a concept but came across as something entirely different on screen. The Traveler was an alien from Tau Alpha C, who came aboard the Enterprise and saw something €˜€™special€™€™ in the boy wonder Wesley Crusher. Comparing him to Mozart, he told Wesley that he was destined for greatness. In the episode €˜Journey€™s End,€™ The Traveler got what he wanted and convinced Wesley to resign from Starfleet and took him away to another plane of existence. Putting aside the dodgy undercurrent, the Traveler was also very dull. Yes he had powers that transcended space and time but he had no charisma on screen. Normally talking in cryptic sentences, you often lost interest in what he was saying or had to offer. But maybe that was his plan, we ignore him and he was free to groom Wesley right under everyone€™s noses. Most entertaining moment: Having an orgasm in Engineering as he helped Wesley control a Warp Bubble in the episode €˜€™Remember Me.€™€™
