Star Trek: 20 Essential Gifts For Trekkies

2. These Are the Voyages, TOS, Season One

These Are The Voyages Why is this book so significant? Well you see, Marc Cushman was given a bundle of information by Gene Roddenberry and Robert H. Justman and this has been his labour of love for the past decade or so. It features never before seen interviews with cast and crew, including some guest stars who have never been interviewed about their Star Trek appearances before. But the really significant part, as previously talked about in one of my old articles here, is that the book covers the real origins and performance of the first season of The Original Series. Each episode has several pages devoted to it, including never before heard stories about production and behind the scenes images. Plus for the first time ever anywhere €“ it has the full Nielsen ratings for every episode. And you know what? The performance of the series wasn't nearly as bad as the history books later claimed. Only available in the UK at Amazon for £19.37.

1. The Next Generation Blu-Ray Box Sets

Star Trek Blu Ray Over the course of the past year or so there has been several releases of Star Trek: The Next Generation seasons with re-mastered episodes on blu-ray. They are beautiful editions and have improved the effects drastically. There are a variety of new commentaries and features, and in one case an extended episode featuring newly found footage €“ which for a normal episode would be good but considering it is for the beloved The Measure of a Man, it was an astounding find. In addition to the season box sets there are also individual blu-rays for the two part cliffhangers that crossed over seasons. So you can get both parts of The Best of Both Worlds on blu-ray from Amazon for £8. The season box sets range in price, from £40 to £45 depending on which season. The blu-rays are possible the best Star Trek home media release in years, and any Trek fan would love to see them once more.
