16. Kurn, Son Of Mogh
Perhaps there's a curse on Worf's house, because his brother, Kurn, was dealt an even worse hand than Alexander.
Brought up as the son of Lorgh, Kurn eventually discovered his true heritage and went on to enjoy a warrior's life in the Klingon Defense Force.
And then he teamed up with Worf.
Kurn was almost killed by assassins during their attempt to clear their father's name. But it was all for nothing when Worf opted to accept the family dishonour to avoid civil war. A righteous decision, yes, but it meant Kurn had to continue hiding his real family name to avoid dishonour.
He became so formidable in the forces that he was ready to overthrow Gowron, replace the Council and usher in a new Klingon era...until Worf spoiled his fun by ordering him to fall in line behind Gowron. Still, his crucial role in securing Gowron's position earned him a place on the High Council...not bad going.
But Kurn's transition to Deep Space Nine was not as glorious as his brother's. Worf's decision to ignore Gowron's demands led to Kurn's banishment from the High Council. The House of Mogh was once more in disgrace, and a run of terrible luck saw dishonour after dishonour drive Kurn to a point of no return. And that's when Worf and Dax had the bright idea to wipe his memories, alter his face, call him Rodek and tell him he has amnesia.
Really. That actually happened.
We know that Deep Space Nine was a darker show rooted in ambiguity, but seriously? The writers took a once proud warrior and absolutely decimated him...and with no real end goal from what we can tell. We put up with an awful lot of shenanigans from Deep Space Nine, but that takes the biscuit.
