Star Trek: 20 Supporting Characters That Deserved More

Meet Kyle Jokovich, Starfleet Academy's greatest mystery...how is this bundle of joy in the War College? Yes, he's one fit cadet, but he's more puppy dog than soldier.

Kyle's sunny disposition brings an irresistible warmth to the screen, no matter how brief and few his appearances are. Even when his fellow war cadets are squaring up to the academy cadets, he's smiling on the sidelines. And when he's injured in a training mission gone horribly wrong, his first instinct is to muster up a smile and a joke while reassuring Jay-Den he's okay.

In all, we'd love to know his secret to happiness. The kind of guy who can stop to enjoy the giant plants taking over the dorm while his fellow cadets panic and run away is someone we need more of in our lives.

And let's be honest, Kyle and Jay-Den are such a great match that it's impossible not to want more Kyle-Den. How Darem can continue to snipe at Kyle is beyond us; one look at his cheerful smile should be enough to melt the iciest of hearts. Unless that's a touch of green we can see glinting in his eyes...

We definitely need to see more of Kyle, but surely they should be moving him out of the War College and into the Diplomatic Corps, stat. That kind of relentless optimism should be ending wars, not fighting them.

Katherine has been boldly going since childhood, when the BBC Two 6pm Star Trek slot changed her life. She was drawn in by the franchise's optimism, compassion and flair for character-driven storytelling. She's been writing stories since she could pick up a pen and has spent far too much time immersed in television, films, books, music and theatre. She loves any chance to talk or write about her favourite fandoms, of which there are many. When not busy writing, she can usually be found playing video games or explaining why the concept of a transporter is actually terrifying.
