Star Trek: 7 Reasons Families On A Starship Are A Bad Idea

1. This Is A Workplace, Not A Zoo

Sssse Would you have children in your office? Maybe on bring-your-child-to work-day but giving birth, looking after them, changing nappies, leaving them there overnight? I think not. A starship is a place of work. It is not very professional for senior officers to be called off the Bridge because misbehaving litlle'uns have made a mess where they shouldn't or started a fight because someone made fun of them because they find their friend's behaviour endlessly illogical. Children running onto the Bridge, breaking innumerable protocols to complain their sibling has stolen their Holotrain-set. Pandemonium. What would they do all day? Officering seems to be a 24-hour job so there can't be much family time. Apart from the odd bit of school, it seems children would be left unsupervised, sitting for hours on end in front of a Holoscreen or letting the Holodeck do the imagining for them. Maybe it is not such a far-fetched idea.

My written style is quite cheeky because I would rather write something that will entertain, even if it divides opinion!
