Star Trek: 9 Ways Strange New Worlds Re-Imagined The Gorn

2. Tactics

Arena only hinted at the viciousness of a Gorn attack on a Federation outpost. The outpost's personnel were slaughtered by constant bombardment by powerful disruptors and the Gorn lured the Enterprise crew into an ambush by faking messages from the outpost's commander.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds depicts the true horror of Gorn attacks in episodes such as Memento Mori and Hegemony. Predators who consider all warm-blooded lifeforms their prey, they conduct attacks more like hunts than battles, utilizing ambush tactics. For example, they'll lure adversaries into ambush by using wounded prey as bait or they'll allow survivors to escape and call for help to lure fresh targets. They'll even willingly sacrifice one of their own to force prey out of hiding.

When attacking a large target such as a colony world, their vessels deposit the same sort of electronics towers they use on their breeding planets on the target planet to jam communications and prevent the use of transporters. They also seed the planet with eggs and use their hatchlings as weapons. The hatchlings roam the colony, indiscriminately killing and infecting people with eggs. Starfleet considered the Gorn so vicious, that they designed new phasers just for them.
