Star Trek Cast: Where Are They Now?
3. Leonard Nimoy
There are few people alive today who don't recognise Leonard Nimoy. He was the longest serving actor in the franchise, appearing in the original pilot The Cage and then finally in 2013's Star Trek Into Darkness.
While he may be best known for Spock, he had a long and varied career, working on television, in films, in theatre and even video games. He was an accomplished photographer as well, publishing books of his work in the '00s.
He was a well known advocate for the rights of his co-workers, arranging for them to receive either equal pay or receiving royalties where possible. He entered into a legal battle with Paramount after they used his likeness without his permission, the resolution of which led to his receiving profit from it and his return to the franchise in Star Trek The Motion Picture.
He directed two of the films and appeared again in Star Trek: The Next Generation (along with the aforementioned JJ Abrams films).
He also appeared in both Fringe and The Big Bang Theory before his death in 2015, though his health was failing for a few years, meaning that his appearance in the latter was a voice-only appearance.
There are two documentaries about his life - For The Love Of Spock and Remembering Leonard Nimoy - that are made by his son and daughter respectively. Though he struggled slightly with people identifying him as Spock in the years following Star Trek, he embraced the character, summed up in the name of one of his autobiographies - I Am Spock.
