Star Trek Discovery: 10 Awesome Villains They Should've Used Instead
1. Terran Empire
Who doesn’t want to see Saru sporting an evil goatee?
The beloved Mirror universe offers a glimpse at bizarro versions of our heroes, and has often provided some of the most uproariously entertaining episodes of the franchise. Evil Spock, Intendant Kira, and “Smiley” O’Brien are just some of the dazzling characters to have arisen from the concept.
So far, the Mirror Universe has only appeared in the Original Series, Deep Space Nine, and Enterprise, but fans would welcome another venture beyond the looking glass with open arms.
In the time period of TOS, and by extension Discovery, the Mirror Universe is ruled by the tyrannic Terran Empire as a dark counterpart of the Federation. Corruption, murder and torture are the orders of the day, as a stark contrast to the noble ideals of the Federation that we’re accustomed to.
Discovery has so far been particularly dark and gritty for a Star Trek show; would the crew’s Terran Empire counterparts reflect that inner darkness, or serve to show how the Prime Universe isn’t so gloomy after all? The nature of spore drive as a means of transporting anywhere in the blink of an eye is rife with the risk of potential calamities, so emerging in Mirror Universe isn’t at all far-fetched to think of.
Word through the grapevine is that the Mirror Universe will indeed make an appearance down the line in the world of Discovery, so prepare yourselves for the arrival of a nasty Saru sooner rather than later.
