Star Trek: Discovery 3.12 Review: Ups And Downs From There Is A Tide

Ups...

5. That Opening Scene!

Star Trek Discovery
CBS

As the weeks go on, the Discovery-A is growing on us more and more. It is futuristic enough to look like a true upgrade of the original, while still keeping the angular design we have come to know and love. Seeing her (allegedly) flee for her life from the Viridiian is a fast and action packed way of kick-starting the episode.

Book and Burnham's dash through the transwarp corridor is a fascinating depiction as well, and this is something that was badly needed earlier in the season. It explains easily why larger ships shouldn't attempt transwarp travel, as they could easily be torn to pieces. While it is late in the season, it is a brilliant moment.

Also, while Vance has been inconsistent across the season, he kicks into drive here, figuring out that all is not as it seems aboard the Discovery. The whole scene is well paced and well depicted and it is our first UP of the week!
