Star Trek: Discovery 3.2 Review - Ups And Downs From Far From Home
4. Reno And Stamets (Up)
While there was a moment on the bridge when Reno may have broken a moment of tension with one of her jokes (stay with us), there is no arguing as to how wonderful an addition to Star Trek: Discovery she has been. Her interactions with Stamets in this episode alone prove that hiring Tig Notaro was one of the best decisions the producers have made.
She is a great foil for the always-so-serious Stamets as she seems to be incapable of taking anything seriously, even in the face of doom. Sometimes, a voice like that is needed, simply to keep the others grounded. She helps Stamets overcome the pain he is feeling by guiding him along with her snark, something that truly gives the episode a bit of extra life.
Stamets, for his part, has been quite up and down in terms of how he has been written. Based on this episode and based on the acting of Anthony Rapp, there is a good double-team in the offing here. Now that the universe ending threat of Control is gone, perhaps its time that the audience will get to see this man lighten up a little!
