Star Trek: Discovery Episode 3.7 Review: Ups And Downs From Unification III

8. Ni'Var (Up)

Star Trek Discovery NiVar
CBS

The legacy of Spock is one of the key plot devices in this episode. It is absolutely wonderful to see that re-unification has indeed taken place, which makes perfect sense when one remembers that Romulus (and presumably Remus!) has been destroyed.

Ni'Var becoming the new homeworld for both races is a great step in the history of both, with very understandable tensions between the two. It is alluded throughout Burnham's interviews with the T'klan-in-ket that the Romulans and Vulcans have yet to find a true harmony, though they have come a long way further along since the last time we saw them together.

This is overall a completely up for this episode, with one little caveat (and it is little!). The relationship that is displayed during Burnham's hearing is a little hard to believe of nine hundreds of growth - it seems like there are still very raw tensions between the Romulans and Vulcans, personified in N'raj's venom toward V'kir.

It isn't the end of the world though, as there is a limited time in which the show gets to display all these years of tensions and growth. Overall, it is good to see that the Romulans and Vulcans have managed to put (overall) their differences aside!
