The big bad at the heart of "Far From Home" is Zareh, an outlaw courier. But, Zareh isn't the first courier to appear in Star Trek: Discovery season three, as both Cosmo Traitt and Cleveland "Book" Booker were couriers battling it out over cargo in last week's season premiere, "That Hope is You".

So what's up with all these couriers in the 32nd century?

Just speculation right now, but it would appear that, in an era without warp drive and without easy travel from planet to planet, couriers are now relied upon to deliver goods to the people. With access to these goods and transportation, couriers like Zareh can apparently wield power and control over their clients.
