"Far From Home" ends with the surprise reappearance of Michael Burnham and the mildly shocking revelation that she's been searching for the USS Discovery for a full year. This lines up with "That Hope Is You" establishing that, due to the timey-wimey nature of the Red Angel's wormhole, there was no telling when or where the Discovery would end up.

In the run up to the premiere, we cited Star Trek: Discovery's new setting 930 years in the future as the most distant setting for a Star Trek series , but it turns out we were off by a year. As of "Far From Home" we are now in the furthest future a Star Trek show has ever been set in: 3189.

Michael rescues the Discovery from the advancing parasitic ice using a tractor beam. The visual effects shot of the Discovery rising from the ice in Michael's tractor beam is staged similarly to the shot of Michael's prison shuttle being rescued from the space borne bugs by the USS Discovery in "Context is For Kings".
