We love a good spaceship crash in Star Trek.
Like in Star Trek Generations, Star Trek: Voyager's "Timeless", even Star Trek Into Darkness, we're treated a thrilling starship crash sequence as the USS Discovery barrels into the planet we come to know as "The Colony". In order to soften their landing, the crew of the Discovery fires graviton beams at the surface ice.
This Trek-nology recently appeared in Star Trek: Discovery season two's "The Red Angel", in which the Second 31 ship commanded by Leland used a graviton beam to close the Red Angel's wormhole over Essof IV.
In Star Trek: Voyager's "Scorpion, Part II", Seven of Nine used the USS Voyager's navigational deflector dish to generate a graviton beam to open a hole into fluidic space.
Clearly a versatile beam.
