Star Trek Discovery: Every Easter Egg & Hidden Reference From 'Far From Home'

6. Coridan(ite)s

The saloon Saru and Tilly find themselves in is run by a group of Coridan, former miners who still remember the Federation.

The Coridan (or Coridanites) were first mentioned in the Star Trek: The Original Series episode "Jouney to Babel" in which they were being considered for Federation membership. The species themselves made their first on screen appearance in the season one Enterprise episode "Shadows of P'Jem", in which they appeared to be humanoids with scaly skin. However, for their second appearance in Enterprise's "Demons", the Coridanite makeup was inexplicably redesigned into something more akin to sea life. This transformation has been undone in "Far From Home" and the Coridans in the bar look nearly identical to their initial appearance in Enterprise.

No matter what they looked like, Coridanites have traditionally been referred to as a mining culture originating from a dilithium-rich planet, Coridan. Since the Burn was caused by the sudden, unexplained explosion of most of the dilithium in the Star Trek Universe, that couldn't have been good news for the Coridanites...
