Star Trek Discovery: Every Easter Egg & Hidden Reference From 'Far From Home'

7. The Really Old West

Star Trek is no stranger to the "Ancient West", with a trip to the OK Coral in TOS' "Spectre of the Gun", holodeck adventures of Sheriff Worf and Deputy Alexander in TNG's "A Fist Full of Datas", and Enterprise's western-themed planet in "North Star". However, this is Star Trek: Discovery's first foray into the western genre.

As described by director Olatunde Osunsanmi in this week's The Ready Room aftershow, "Far From Home" represented an opportunity for the series to trade in western tropes. These include the batwing doors opening into the mining colony's saloon, the itchy trigger finger of the Coridan barkeep, and, of course the spurs worn by the episode's outlaw villain, Zareh.
