Star Trek: Dr McCoy's 10 Point Guide To Being The Best Doctor In Starfleet

6: Don't Be Afraid To Show A Little Love

You always want to try and stay professional and keep a certain amount of distance between you and the patient but that can be hard when the patient is your friend. Even though Spock and McCoy like to pretend they don't like each other, when push came to shove and one was in danger or injured, the love would always come to the surface. In 'The Immunity Syndrome,' Spock is stuck in a giant amoeba and is demanding to be left to die so that the ship can save itself, which prompts McCoy to shout out of love ''Shut-up, Spock! We're rescuing you!'' But it is most evident in Star Trek III. Spock's body has been rescued from Genesis and is on it's way back to Vulcan so it can be reunited with it's Katra (living spirit). McCoy has a chance to have a quiet moment with the friend he thought had died and decides to tell him how much he has missed him. It's a great Spock and McCoy moment. McCoy's Lesson: It doesn't hurt to show a little love, even if you don't particularly like the person. If anything, it might make them feel better sooner. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vZ5WuJnSUg&feature=youtu.be
