Star Trek: Endgame Fiction Vs. Reality
6. Tom Paris
What Happens In The Episode:
Despite his often fractious relationship with authority, Tom Paris spent his time in The Delta Quadrant establishing himself as a vital member of the crew, expert helmsman, and loving husband. Alongside this, his personal time was often spent in the holodeck, enjoying holonovels of his own creation, including the 50s B-Movie inspired Captain Proton serials.
Returning to The Alpha Quadrant in Admiral Janeway's timeline, Paris hangs up his pips and becomes a full-time holonovelist of some regard, leaving interplanetary matters to his wife B'Elanna, and daughter Miral.
What Really Happens:
Although he does manage to release his Captain Proton holonovels, Paris still has plenty more years to give in Starfleet on his return. Following his return to the Alpha Quadrant, Paris serves as a sort of morale officer, undergoing handshake tours across the fleet.
Paris' pseudo-celebrity status would present itself strongly across the crew of the USS Cerritos in Lower Decks. Ensign Rutherford idolizes Paris' Delta Flyer design, and Ensign Boimler nearly gets himself killed in an attempt to get Paris' signature on a commemorative Voyager plate, when the Lieutenant mistakes him for a Kazon and springs to violent action.
