Star Trek: Endgame Fiction Vs. Reality
3. Seven Of Nine
What Happens In The Episode:
Of all the regrets which lead to Admiral Janeway's decision, one of her most cutting was the loss of Seven of Nine, which would have occurred in an away mission three years after her intervention. In these three years, Seven's budding relationship with Chakotay would develop into a marriage, and it would be her husband who held her in his arms as she perished in the original timeline.
What Really Happens:
With Voyager safely home, Seven's life would take a wildly different route, as seen in Star Trek: Picard. Following her return, Seven's application to Starfleet is rejected, despite Janeway's protestations. Her disillusionment at this decision leads her to become a Fenris Ranger, applying her considerable skills and experience to a more, shall we say, direct form of justice as a vigilante.
This career shift would ultimately result in Seven crossing paths with Jean-Luc Picard, as a vendetta against black marketeers harvesting Borg components aligns her motives with his. Now inexorably linked with the erstwhile Admiral, Seven has since found herself battling Romulans, Borg, and even Q.
This experience leads to her finally being granted the rank of Commander in Starfleet, after which she is assigned to the Titan-A, under Captain Liam Shaw. The events of Picard's third season, and more directly the penultimate episode, sees the newly re-christened Titan-A, or should we say Enterprise-G, in need of a new Captain.
Who better to fill the role than the newly promoted Captain Seven of Nine? Captain Tuvok certainly seems to agree, offering her the role, and leaving fans screaming for a spin-off series.
