Star Trek: Every Ensign Ranked From Worst To Best

7. Samanthan Rutherford

There's no question that Ensign Rutherford enjoys working in engineering, in fact, at times it seems like he likes the ship's warp core and jefferies tubes a bit too much.

Rutherford's Vulcan cybernetic implant has caused him some trouble in the past (by suppressing his emotions, among other things), but it's also helped a great deal too by allowing him to sort through his memories, enhance his vision, and even change his personality. He's one of the few Starfleet officers that we've seen enhance their bodies with cybernetics, which not only helps him with his work, but also shows his love of technology.

The chief engineer of the Cerritos, Andy Billups, regarded Rutherford as one of his best officers, but beyond that he also impressed Shaxs with his cybernetically enhanced combat abilities.

Rutherford has made mistakes in the past, like creating the homicidal hologram Badgey, but he's got the potential to become a really impressive officer in the future.
