Star Trek: Every Medical Officer Ranked

5. Julian Bashir

There's a lot to say about Doctor Julian Bashir of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's space station Deep Space 9. He was a secretly genetically-engineered super doctor ("Doctor Bashir, I Presume") who loved his teddy bear ("The Quickening") and making problematic advances on his co-worker, Lieutenant Jadzia Dax (every episode of season one).

Bashir's arc over the course of DS9's seven seasons is one of the show's most dramatic, with his fairly adolescent, James Bond-style holonovels turning into an ugly reality with Section 31's repeated attempts to recruit him. Bashir was introduced with his foot in his mouth in the pilot, but was humanized through his friendship with everyman Chief Miles O'Brien and their frequent trips to the Alamo holosuite program or Vic Fontaine's holographic lounge inside a real lounge, aka Quark's Bar.

Despite his occasional arrogance, self righteousness, and horniness, DS9 consistently portrayed Bashir as a fully capable medical provider who literally entered a man's mind to retrieve the cure for the morphogenic virus that was killing Odo in "Extreme Measures".

Oh and then there was that time he wore a silver racquetball singlet in "Rivals", our man Bashir was dedicated.
