Star Trek: Every Vulcan Ability You Need To Know

2. Mind Melding

Imagine if, in an instant, you could share your mind with someone. Everything you think, they would hear, and vice versa. This is what a Vulcan mind meld is like. But not only can you read their mind, you can also see deep into their memories, determine if they're telling the truth, and learn all of their secrets.

Mind melding was considered taboo during the 22nd century, but by the time of The Original Series it was commonplace. Spock mind melded with so many people its impossible to say for sure how many, including at one time even a robot. It's easy to see why Vulcan's frowned on it originally, though. Throughout the franchise we see a number of side-effects of mind melding, such as in the Voyager episode, Meld, where Tuvok mind melds with an extremely violent person and begins to lose his sanity.

As we discussed earlier, mind melds could also, on rare occasions, be used to transfer one soul into another person's subconscious, or to create permanent telepathic links between people.
