Star Trek: Everything We Know About Section 31 (The Movie)

2. Where in Sto'Vo'Kor Is Ash Tyler?

Yes, I can hear you. Ash Tyler — the Voq one — is not dead. Not by a mid-23rd to likely early 24th century perspective, anyway. After added, errm, 'unfortunateness' back on Qo'noS, Tyler was recruited as an acting Section 31 agent, and by 2258, he'd been made head of the whole darn thing. The poster child for how not to learn a second language would have to be a smidge older, but where was he at the club?

More than just the permanent position post-Control debacle in Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2, it appeared Tyler was being set up to lead a "radical overhaul" of Section 31 with "perhaps far more transparency". At that stage, the spin-off was still a series, and Shazad Latif was apparently wondering if he might be in it. As he told Trekkie Girls in July 2019,

Michelle is very busy, it depends on her being free, me being free. It depends if I fit into the timeline. […] We'll know more in a year.

In the least, the movie might address the impact Tyler had on Section 31, or lack thereof. Following the previous entry, whatever happened during his tenure could help explain why it was back to the back alleys by 2374.

Jack Kiely is a writer with a PhD in French and almost certainly an unhealthy obsession with Star Trek.
