Star Trek: Everything We Know About Starfleet Academy

The value of wisdom is also to have the good sense not to wait around for it, and the aptitude not to lose it whilst you wait around. Starfleet Academy will be the first live-action Star Trek series both aimed at and centred around a 'young adult' demographic, a fact that will hopefully attract a whole new generation to the franchise. The debate over target demographics and Star Trek is far, far from new, but that's never prevented the show from having a universal appeal.

The cadets attending this iteration of the institution will have to get wise in double time, too. As Paramount described Starfleet Academy on its announcement on 30 March 2023:

From executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau, the series will follow the adventures of a new class of Starfleet cadets as they come of age in one of the most legendary places in the galaxy.

All's not a bed of Boothby's roses, however, as StarTrek.com described it on the same day:

Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, [the cadets] will discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.

In all that energy and excitement, those of us old enough to remember the show's long journey to screen, might just feel young again!
