Star Trek Lower Decks: Every Easter Egg & Hidden Reference From 'Second Contact'

18. Opening Titles

Star Trek Lower Decks
CBS

The title sequence for Star Trek: Lower Decks is standard 90s Trek, featuring loving shots of the hero ship flying through space... but with a twist.

Not only does the USS Cerritos fly past frozen space debris (like the USS Voyager does in Star Trek: Voyager's opening titles), she also runs into said debris.

Later in the sequence, the ship encounters a battle between several Romulan D'deridex-class warbirds (first seen in TNG's "The Neutral Zone") and a fleet of Borg cubes, before turning tail and running.

The beginning of the main titles feature musical notes taken directly from both Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: The Original Series, courtesy of composer Chris Westlake, who may or may not be the namesake of Nurse Westlake, seen zombified later in the episode.

The black hole that appears at the beginning of the titles is also the current "scientifically accurate" vision of a black hole, famous for its appearance in Christopher Nolan's Interstellar, A very similar looking black hole appeared in the Star Trek: Discovery episode "If Memory Serves".
