One thing that was already apparent about Star Trek: Lower Decks was that it was going to be crammed full of subtle touches, nods, winks, and references. The vibe they're trying to get across is 'We Are Huge Star Trek Nerds, And We Know You Are Too, So Come Look At All The Star Trek Nerdery We've Got'.

Everything here, from obvious stuff like the typography of the opening credits being a nice nod to the Next Generation, right the blink-and-you'll-miss-it references to things like Cetacean Ops, was designed to get a tiny, geeky pop out of long-time fans
