Star Trek Picard: 10 Plotlines Season 3 Should Address
8. Fallout From The Dominian War
In Season 1, it was revealed that Admiral Jean-Luc Picard had resigned from Starfleet in protest as a result of the Federation's withdrawal of help to the Romulans following the Utopia Planetia incident. Following that, Admiral Clancy had also demonstrated a level of pragmatism and more isolationist attitudes when pressed about the refusal of help to the Romulans.
Writer Michael Chabon had mentioned that he had wished to include overt references to the Dominian War as the reason for Starfleet's more isolationist stance. It would make sense as the devastating war had caused the Federation into murkier waters far from their ideals (the development of the USS Defiant). With that in mind, it did make sense that the Federation was happy to withdraw help to the Romulans at the earliest opportunity.
As such, the fallout from the Dominian War has wider-reaching effects beyond Deep Space Nine. Whilst it was disappointing to see a lack of references to this in Season 1, Season 2 has dropped this element completely as it focused on the time travel plot.
With that in mind, it would be a good plot line for Season 3 to address Starfleet's change in ideology following the devestating Dominion War.
