Star Trek Picard: 5 Ups & 5 Downs From Episode 2 'Maps And Legends'

3. Less Action, More Talking

Few would call the premiere episode action-packed, though it's also fair to say that the schlocky action in the middle of the episode with Picard and Dahj fleeing their attackers was...not good.

Thankfully, episode two scales back the action almost completely, as aside from the opening synth uprising flashback, the episode is largely comprised of people talking.

While much of that talking is admittedly overstuffed with exposition, it's also a refreshing change of tenor from the previous episode, which tried a little too aggressively to shoehorn action amid the chit-chat.

After all, people have always been attracted to Trek more for its ideas and rich philosophy rather than its action. If the dialogue is compelling enough, fans will be willing to wait for the more ambitious set-pieces.
