Star Trek Picard: Every Easter Egg & Hidden Reference From 'Nepenthe'
10. Cue Eurythmics
Picard introduces Soji to Will Riker, calling him "Commander Riker". The last time we saw Riker (outside of Star Trek: Enterprise's finale), Riker had been promoted to captain of the USS Titan. Still, old habits die hard. Admiral Clancy derisively referred to Picard as "the great Captain Picard" back in episode two, "Maps and Legends", even though Picard had retired as an admiral.
Just like in "Absolute Candor", Soji does the characteristic curious android head tilt, which Riker recognizes right away: "Kid's got Data in her DNA"... which is sort of confusing when we're dealing with constructed people, but go with it.
In her garden, Deanna offers Soji a taste of a real tomato. There has really got be better fruit in Deanna Troi's garden in the shade for Soji to take a big bite of, but again we're going with it. Soji says she's never eaten any food that didn't come from replicator.
Keiko O'Brien expressed similar sentiments towards "real meat" in TNG's "The Wounded" and of course there was that scene with Agnes and Bruce Maddox baking chocolate cookies themselves rather than just relying on the replicator in "Stardust City Rag".
